ELI WEST

Eli West is a Vancouver Island based ceramicist and pottery instructor. “I spend much of my free time between the two studios that I teach at, as well as spending as much time as I can in my small home studio where I create all of the work that you see.”

“My work is rather minimal, I focus mainly on unglazed or naturally glazed vessels that are made from black or white stoneware. I try to express myself through my work by producing clean, wheel-thrown, vessels that have small hand-built components added to them to provide expression and personality to their surface. I believe that the natural surface of the clay is beautiful in itself and I try to highlight that beauty in all of my work.”

Eli is able to produce both utilitarian and sculptural work, often blending the lines between the two. Many of his functional pieces are based on his artistic vessels which allows individuals the ability to include these in their daily rituals, forming deeper connections to his pieces.

“Thank you for taking the time to visit my work, either virtually or in-person. All of my pieces are created with the same connection and intention as the last, I believe that through this I can share little parts of myself with everyone who adds one of my vessels to their daily routine or collection”.
